Choisya ternata
Mexican orange smells beautiful when in flower and has great foliage when it's at rest. The evergreen foliage does very well with dappled shade. It had a medium rate of growth achieving 4-5' in height and 6' in width. Very tough and durable.
Cistus corbariensis
This rock rose is a very tough plant which actually prefers less nutrition and water than most shrubs. Lots of sun and heat will make this plant very happy, and in return it will flower it's head of in the summer. It will get about 3' high and 4.5' wide. A great shrub for the front of the border.
Digitalis x mertonensis
A true perennials foxglove that has excellent foliage and a light pink flower in May.
It does very well in a bit of shade where it's foliage grow unhindered. Deer resistant and yes poisonous, plant this well out of reach of children. 3' high x 1' wide
Erigeron "Profusion"
The daisy like flowers of this plant are out for months during the summer. It loves sun and a well drained location. A great plant for the front of the border, it mixes well with Nepta, Salvia and many more winners. 9" high x 2' wide.
Erysimum "Bowles Mauve"
This is a woody evergreen perennial which loves sun. The mauve flowers it produces are in abundance during the spring and summer. You should shear these back in mid summer but it is always hard to do. Good foliage and slightly scented flowers add to this plants value.
Garrya elliptica "James Roof"
Rare in cultivation, this evergreen shrub deserves more attention. The foliage is subtle during the winter, but come Feb. catkins begin to lengthen. A real winner in an are that receives a good level of light and requires lots of space. Hard to propogate, hence you don't see if much.
Helleborus argutifolius
This is one tough plant. Most hellebores require shade and a comfy spot to flourish, this one likes heat and lots of sun. In fact shade will cause it to become quite floppy.
It has pale green flowers which are very early to emerge. Strong evergreen foliage the rest of the year makes this a winner.
Ilex "Blue boy"
Ultimately 10-12' in height, this holly has blue-green glossy leaves. A good performer in colder climates, this should be teamed up with Blue girl to ensure fruit set.
Ilex aquifolium ferox
The sliver hedge hog holly has dramatic foliage. This form has spines which emerge from the middle of each leave giving it much different look. It will ultimately reach 10' in height, and can tolerate shady conditions
